Welcome to Virtual Galleries (or vGalleries, for short).
This site is dedicated for photographers and artists to display and promote their work.
Obviously we're under construction and there's a lot of work to be done, but its also free, and with no advertisements.
The concept of vGalleries is that users can create to display their .
The first gallery you create will be your home-gallery.
Use this gallery just like your homepage- introduce yourself, talk a bit about your work, etc.
Then, you upload your pictures, and create additional galleries to display them.
What will happen is that every time you create an additional gallery, your home-gallery will be updated to show a link to it.
Now, when you create a gallery (including your home-gallery), you have to select a .
A template is what allows your gallery to look professional without you having to do Web design (yes, right now the available templates aren't exactly beautiful, I'll work on it).
Templates come in template sets, which provide a common look-and-feel to different kinds of templates.
Typically, there are three different templates that you will use for your galleries.
They are:
- Home-gallery (a special template type which is only for homepages)
- Single-image regular gallery (a regular template used for showcasing one picture only)
- Multi-image gallery (a regular template which shows 150x150 pixel thumbnails of multiple pictures)
You can create as many galleries as you'd like.
So, to get started, after you've logged in, select Manage your site.
The first step to do is to select which template set you'd like to use as a default for your galleries (you can always override this later if you wish).
To do this, you'll follow the link Set your default template set.
After you've selected a default template set, you'll create your home gallery.
You'll be brought through two pages to create your home gallery.
The first asks you for a title for your gallery and template to use (the only template you can select is the home-gallery template, but you can switch template-sets).
The second will prompt you for the variables for the gallery.
Variables allow you to customize the content of your galleries and pictures.
The home-gallery templates need the following gallery-variables (note that all variables are optional):
- Heading- the H1 tag in the page
- Logo- the name of an image (not one of your registered pictures, though!) that will be added to the top of your page
(since you haven't uploaded any extra images, leave this blank for now- you can add one later)
- Message 1- text that will be placed above your gallery-list in your home-gallery
- Message 2- text that will be placed below your gallery-list in your home-gallery
You can use HTML tags in these variables as you see fit.
Its best that you just use plain text the first time, see how the gallery looks, and then add any customization you'd like afterwords.
